For Tamariki & Rangatahi
I have had an unwanted sexual experience in the last 7 days
We are so sorry that something has happened to you that was not okay.
If you haven’t already, tell a safe adult – you don’t have to deal with this on your own. Check out our Helpful Websites section for additional support options.
If you are in Auckland and still within 7 days from this unwanted experience occurring, you can be seen at Te Puaruruhau (24/7) and will be offered an appointment with one of our trained and experienced doctors and nurses. With your consent they can do a Medical Examination Kit (MEK).
If you are outside of Auckland there are doctors, nurses and teams across the country who are trained across the country.
You might want to talk with the police; they will be able to talk you through your options and offer additional support. If you’re unsure about reporting to the police just yet, but would like to be seen by our health service, we can still offer a Police Medical Examination Kit (MEK), and will hold onto it until you are ready to consent to it being handed to the police.

Without talking, follow the instructions and menu prompts. Press numbers and buttons when asked.
At your appointment
You will spend at least a few minutes on your own with one of these people as there are some personal and private questions you may be asked.
Some of the other things that might be offered may be a blood test, sexual health screening and education, contraception information, physical examination, ACC claim and clinical photography. If you have any health worries about your body please share these with the medical team.
We have kitchen facilities and kai available.

“I was in shock. I just wanted to go home or run away. If I didn’t have the support I don’t think I could have gone through the process of dealing with all of this. I wasn’t sure I could cope, everything hurt and I just felt sick. The doctor was so kind, and when the nurse asked if I wanted to talk with the police I said no and she was still kind. During the appointment I felt a bit stronger and safer and changed my mind, they were all just there to tautoko me at my own speed. Looking back they were trying to give me back some control of my own body, I think that was the start of my healing journey”
